Chivukula for Congress: A Team Campaign

Over the past few months, I had the honor of working with Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula’s Congressional campaign in the capacity of call time manager.

Assemblyman Chivukula is a serious legislator committed to his constituents. As an electrical engineer and a progressive, he offers a much-needed perspective that would have served NJ-12 well in Congress. Unfortunately, while the election did not end in our favor on June 2, I am proud of the work we accomplished for Chivukula for Congress. With only three months available to us, we exceeded fundraising expectations and raised more than $350,000 in contributions.

Police Unity Tour

Every May for the past 18 years, the Police Unity Tour has taken bicyclists on a four-day ride ending in Washington, DC. With a motto of “We Ride For Those Who Have Died,” the tour raises awareness for officers who died in the line of duty. The proceeds benefit the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

As part of our ongoing efforts to bring attention to the many contributions Jersey City police officers, through their union the Jersey City Police Officers’ Benevolent Association,  make to their community above and beyond their efforts to fight crime and keep the streets safe we invited the press out to attend the reception kicking off the 2014 Police Unity Tour. The event, held on May 7 at Maritime Parc in Liberty State Park, was well attended and included several JCPD members that were setting out on the bicycle journey, representatives of the Jersey City Medical Center and various community leaders. The reception also included a live demonstration by the Jersey City Police K-9 unit.
